Hiking in the valley of Serres, Greece

One of our class got cancelled. Again. This time I was not even surprised. The previous week I was so frustrated because of that. Teacher cancelled the class but forgot to tell us, apparently. We needed to ask from her if we have a class or not.. How professional of her. After that I chose not to take that class from her, no point in doing that when you do not learn anything and lose your nerves. If anyone is interested in NOT taking that class of hers, it was called Service Management & Outsourcing. But in a positive note, at the end I got a grade from that class. She did not even care who is taking her classes, she just gave grades to all so she would have less work.

We did not see her next week

With the extra time and nothing else to do, we decided to go explore the valley in Serres with my co-Erasmus people Kaisa and Marcel. We started from TEI and went towards the valley and checked places on the way which seemed interesting.

Needed to jup over the small river s couple of times in different spots

Small waterfall

When we started walking from uni, the campus dogs came with us. When we arrived to the waterfall, the uni dogs disappeared and another dog from the waterfall joined us. In a while, this dog left and another joined us. We were thinking that they were protecting us, from something. Or just guiding us. I didn't mind as I liked their company. And every time we left the uni campus to go to the city, one or more dogs from there joined us, just like security's. When I went alone they didn't come, but with more people they always did.

Puppy

Went up to one hill and found an old bunker. Inside was lots of trash (like all over Greece) and a fire pit

The hill was pretty steep

Another steep cliff. I walked pretty close to the cliff on the right

At the end of the trail

This was the furthest we went. We could go more, but we had a long way back. In total we hiked more than 10 km

Another time when our classes were cancelled, we went to the Cityzen restaurant with almost all of our Erasmus people, it is on the way to the end of the hike. The restaurant is on top of a hill almost at the end of the city. The only nice things the restaurant had was the location with a nice view, the interior design and the decorations outside. Otherwise the restaurant was pretty bad. First no English menu which is kinda okay as many places in Greece do not have them, but is still a minus. The owner or a waiter translated us the menu. After we had ordered they brought us the starters and the main dishes for the Finns at the same time. When Finns had finished their appetizers, their main dishes were already cold. We also asked for blankets as we were sitting outside and it got really windy and the waitress brought them a bit before we left so was kinda useless to bring them then.

View from Cityzen to Serres

The design was nice

There were many cats outside where we sat and they were really blatant. Almost coming on the table and scratching us to get food

Walking back to TEI we saw a little chapel

Inside the chapel

Cute kitty. And a shy one. Went away when I went closer :(

Nice colors

That was the hike after our classes were cancelled.. Most of the times the classes were cancelled unexpected and we did not have a plan of what to do in Serres so we just were in our rooms in the computer. This time we were thinking of that hike a while but had not done it yet.
