Exploring the city of Brussels

It was my first time in Belgium besides one layover a couple years ago. We were there for only a couple of days so we had limited time to see everything. And actually, we did not see everything I looked up and wanted to go to. The city is still confusing to walk around as we did not have much time in Brussels, we were drinking beer most of the time and we had Flo´s Belgium course mate as a "local" guide.

The Centenary Palace is one of the remaining buildings of the World's Fair in 1935. It was also the venue for the Eurovision Grand Prix in 1987. Currently it is still being used for trade fairs

When you steal clothes from your boyfriend

The Infantry Memorial of the the Belgian foot soldiers who fought in World War I and World War II

The side of the Palace of Justice building which is reputed to be the largest building constructed in the 19th century. The frontal view was under construction at that time we were there

The statue of Pieter Bruegel the Elder, the most significant artist of Dutch and Flemish Renaissance painting. The statue of the painter was placed at the Chapel Church where he married and was buried

Notre-Dame du Sablon is a Gothic church which was built from 13th to 15th century, is 24 m wide and 65 m tall

St Jacques sur Coudenberg, another church from 19th century. Does not look at all like a church, rather a museum or administration building

The Old England Building

The Old England Building used to be a department store built at the end of 19th century. Nowadays it holds a Museum of Musical Instruments with more than 8000 instruments.

Mont des Arts. The tower behind is the Town Hall´s tower

The Mont des Arts or Kunstberg translates as hill of the arts. It is a peaceful place to relax and enjoy the view. The hill was created between 1956 and 1958.

Walking in the city centre

There are public toilets for bums so they would not pee everywhere. Most of the bums are men so basically there is a public toilet for them. Women needed to find another place to pee. It was a struggle at some points because we were drinking beer and well, I needed to pee all the time

St. Nicholas Church

The St. Nicolas Church was built about 1000 years ago but only a small amount of the original structure remains. A cannon ball fired in 1695 by the French is still lodged in one of the pillars.

When in Brussels - waffle. Cost about 2-3€ in all of the places

Royal Gallery of Saint Hubert built between 1846-47. Has many high-end shops, theatres and unique boutiques. Even though if you do not want to shop, go and have a look of the amazing glass roof

Went to check the sunset

Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula - dedicated to the patron saints of Brussels. The building was built from 11th - 15th century, the 2 towers are 69 m high

There are many flea markets in Brussels, especially during the weekends. They mostly sell antiques and sometimes furniture but other stuff as well.

Before leaving we went to a cafe and in my ice tea were paper straws!

In total we stayed from Thursday evening to Sunday noon in Brussels. (Thursday evening straight to the hotel, Friday MiniEurope and Atomium, Saturday city centre and Sunday leaving.) Brussels has a lot to offer and I liked that city a lot. Want to go back there because I enjoyed the city and did not get to see everything. Recommend Brussels :)
