When my boyfriend came to visit me, we decided to go to mount Olympus. We took an AirBnB in Thessaloniki, we had shorter drive and nothing to do anyway in Serres :D First stop was swimming. The weather was nice and sunny. When we were in the water, Flo yelled "SHARK!" and I screamed. Ofc there was no shark, he just tricked me and I believed it

Mount Olympus on the right

Driving up the mountain on serpentine roads. Tight and small roads with huge drop-offs. Not my favourite place to be

We drove higher than this place but turned back around. The road got tighter and if some car wanted to pass, we would be fucked

First time touching the bloody cold water. Mount Olympus was the place where gods lived so we wanted to swim there where they lived. When are you going to have this experience next time? :)

The water was really cold, but it was sunny so in the end it was not too bad

There was a small waterfall in the back and around there the water was EVEN colder. But it was worth to go inside

We swam in the small lake in the back. Luckily there were no people when we were struggling to enter the cold water

When we were done with swimming, we explored the area around the pool and went towards our car. We saw another road and found an even better swimming place. We swam where the waterfall is located

Flo told the water was even colder here. I wanted to go under the waterfall, but did not make it, the water was too cold to swim there

We drove down and up from another road to The Monastery of Agios Dionysios which is at an altitude of 830 m. The monastery was named after the monk who founded it in 1542. It has been a shelter and hiding place since the Turkish domination until 1943 where the German occupants bombed and almost destroyed it. Now many of the buildings have been restored. The founders grave lies inside the monastery.

We did not see anyone around besides tourists but it felt someone was living there and taking care of the buildings

Inside the chapel

Half an hour walk away from the monastery is the Holy Cave of Agios Dionysios. This was the place Agios Dionysios lived.

Flo looks so small comparing to the cliff. Inside the house was a small altar and behind Flo was a small door. I opened the door and it was pitch black inside. With phone light you could see water gutter on the cliff. I did not dare to go further inside. I have not seen many horror movies, but I know what happens there.

The mountains looked really nice

When we were driving up the mountain, we drove on the side of the road where was possible to park etc and the angle from the road to the parking lot was so shit that the dent was inevitable.. When I returned the car to the car rental, the guy did not notice it and I felt so bad about it. When we said goodbyes, I walked away so quickly. I was really hoping that he would not call me which he did not in the end

Mount Olympus is the highest mountain in Greece and has 52 peaks. The highest peak Mytikas is 2918 m. We went up to around 850 m. Since 1938, Mount Olympus is also a national park, the first national park in Greece.
